Very clever Dixons ads

Found these Dixons ads over at Welcome to optimism today by M&C Saatchi….

Totally love them having the balls to use “The last place you want to go” as their tagline.
Would be great to be in the Harrods, Selfridges and John Lewis boardrooms when they were discussing them!

Barclays in-branch posters

Visited Barclays at lunchtime today and saw some new in store posters that i thought were a refreshing change.
Here’s two of them…

Portfolios 2009 - Paul Arden

Attended the Portfolios show in London last night. Discovered some great illustrating talent but unfortunately due to traffic getting down there I didn’t get to explore the main hall as much as I’d liked.

Whilst there I was lucky enough to get a ticket to get into the seminar on the legend that is Paul Arden. Paul made a name for himself at Saatchi and Saatchi working on now famous campaigns forĀ  British Airways, Silk Cut, Anchor Butter, InterCity and Fuji and came up with household slogans which include ‘The Car in front is a Toyota’ and ‘The Independent - It Is - Are You?’. In 1993 he set up the London-based production company Arden Sutherland-Dodd where he was a commercials director for clients such as BT, BMW, Ford, Nestle and Levis.

Unfortunately he passed away in 2008 and will forever be sorely missed, check out the fitting tribute at Creative Review the day after his death.

Regarded as a god in the advertising world, a true creative genius by anyone elses standards.

I’ve been a Paul Arden fan since fan since reading his first book “It’s Not How Good You Are, It’s How Good You Want to Be” back in 2003, it truely is an inspirational read and highly recommend it. A real get up a go feeling is left with you when you reluctantly turn the last page as you want it to go on forever. Thankfully since then he wrote two more “Whatever you think, think the opposite” and “God explained in a taxi ride” both up there with the first. All 3 are useful additions to anyones library to give you a kick up the backside when you think things aren’t going your way, check them out!

BooneOakley website - GEEEENIUS

Well this is certainly one of those “Now why the hell didn’t i think of that” moments!

BooneOakley an advertising agency from across the pond have created their entire website from within the confines of YouTube as an actual video.
You navigate the website using the timeline button and tags within the video which takes you to another fully funtioning video.

So so clever… this is thier website, embedded in my blog, ha brilliant!

Audi Q5 animated ad

Aaron Duffy at 1st Ave Machine and Russell Brooke at Passion Pictures have created the very cute ad for the Audi Q5. I really like the little character they have created and the addictive humming soundtrack over the top.

Have started to see a trend toward car advertising showing cars made from anything but the traditional materials cardboard, cake, plastic, are there more?…

Radio 6 animated ad

Fantastic new promo ad for BBC 6 Music appeared over the weekend, you must check it out!

It was created by ad agency Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R to A-Punk by American band Vampire Weekend.

In my opinion must have been heavily influenced by the great work of sketch and graffiti artist BLU (below) who has been doing this sort of thing for some time now. Wonder what he thinks to it?

Happy New Year!

First day back in the studio and must say it was a great drive in as it had snowed overnight and was still snowing on the way in. The converted stables in Tring, Hertfordshire where our studio is located looks spectacular in the snow. Its a shame the camera on my phone doesn’t do it justice else I would have posted a photo.

This seemed very appropriate to have in my inbox, hope your getting off to a better 2009 than this poor guy!
